New Music Friday this week is plaged with a bunch of comeback genres. I’m still not sure what the thing is with all the vocal effects… it only leads to disappointment… or maybe I’m just old. Anyway, here’s what’s happening this week…
This song sounds a bit like some weird salsa-esque song about dating someone in the afterlife… or the next incarnation… or just hooking up in one of those timelines? Either way, all I know is that unlike I had initially thought… this song is not about having sex in graveyards.
This song is not about that movie, the Sixth Sense. It’s about a “player” who falls in love, and wants to get married. Spoiler Alert: at the end you do not find out that the “player” is Bruce Willis, however, just like the Sixth Sense… this song sucks.
This is total garbage… reminds me of Ratchets – Lil Debbie, only I liked the Lil Debbie song for some reason. If cassingles, or 7″ compilations were still a thing, you could be this would be the Ratchets B-side on the jukebox at your local Malt (liquor) Shop.
Not that I’m any authority on Punk, but… having a general idea of who these people are… based on jobs I’ve done in the past. I gotta say, this is very WTF?!? …apparently, southern punks pop their collar.
I think the person singing sounds like they’re trying to sound like Björk. Subject matter is interesting though, like the audio version of Dead Like Me or Final Destination… only everyone lives. Apparently, young people never die… no matter how much dumb –ish we do. I really love the horn section in this song, reminds me a lot of the ska that was coming out in the early days of Hell-cat records.
This song reminds me of a Cardigans song, the way the vocal progression works. The music itself is a bit like Sergio Mendes & Brasil ’66, I enjoy the way the vocals sort of wrap around each other in the pre-chorus. That hard stop directly before the words “Selfish Love” really drives that Sergio Mendes thing home for me. Other than that, it does have a bit of a samba feel… It’s looking like this is going to e the favorite of the week. I’m a huge sucker for 90’s music and Brazilian jazz, and Sergio Mendes é meu favorito.
